Today is Martin Luther King day. Not really much else to do. I signed up for a TON of ptc sites. Attempting to get my name out there first before i start my own. I already have the script, but since I start school tomorrow I wont be able to set anything up until this weekend.

Trying to get users to come to my blog and bookmark it. In my next post, I will post referrals of all the sites i'm currently signed up for. Have a nice day everybody.

Easy downloading.

I've been using a free program for quite some time, Jdownloader. It's fast easy to use and downloads practically everything I copy. What I mean by this is that I don't even have to put the link of what I'm downloading in to the program. All i have to do is copy the link and ta-da.

Sometimes after my computer is on for a very long time it tends to be a pain and not work properly. It's a good program for mass downloads. Say a friend gives you a file that's about 20 gigs, and say there's 8,000 parts. This program makes it simple.

Best of all it's free. It works great with my comodo firewall. Rapidshare requires no captchas, so i use it mostly. Although the captchas are kind of nice because you know that the program is actually downloading the file.

I'm now signed up with swag bucks, it's a pretty neat site you can see it at the very bottom of the page. Swag bucks is cool because stuff that I do on a daily basis I can get points for and then use those points to get free stuff. There's a daily poll which is worth 1 swag buck, you can randomly be selected, enter surveys, search, watch videos, and much more. All of those generate swag bucks randomly.

Currently in my clixsense account which I mentioned in a previous post I have $5.18. The money is slowly building. I went back and installed the toolbar and just hid my other tool bars that I rarely use. It's nice knowing when I have ads to click.

Back to the point of this post, swag bucks is easy to use. I have it set as my home page. You can redeem your swag bucks to get wallpapers, clothes, electronics, sweepstakes entries, gift cards and much more.

I've also recently signed up for another site called neobux, which is fairly cool. It's just like clixsense, I've only been using it for about a day, but a friend of mine says it's legitimate. I saw the statement in his Paypal with my own eyes even though it was only for $45. With all the time I spend online, it wouldn't hurt to make a little extra cash.

I've heard a lot about this site recently. It is not a get rich quick scheme, takes about 4 minutes of your time a day tops. It doesn't require your full screen or your full attention.

To cut to the chase, there's a toolbar that is optional to download. I didn't download it because I have three others already. The toolbar tells you when you have new ads to click. I've been told that you get anywhere from1 - 5 a day.

For referring people you get paid percentages only if the member you referred is active. Bogus in my opinion so I will not even waste my time. You must spend at least 30 seconds on the site you click. There's a counter, no annoying ads or pop-ups which I found suprising. Clixsense also requires you to get an Alertpay account. Pain in the neck to setup but that was free as well.

However if your going to listen to music, do it on the radio. I found this out the hard way. The sites you go to do have a habit of speaking and making noises like those annoying "free talking ipod" ads. So far I got like 30 cents, I actually played a game and clicked the ads in between games.

Free web based Irc

Mibbit has to be one of my favorite sites to go to on a low end computer. For instance when I'm over at someones house and they don't have yahoo or anything the most appealing thing to do is to log into Internet relay chat in my opinion.

Mibbit is free, easy to use. Choose a name and log in. If your familiar with IRC you know that you can change your nickname at any time using the command "/nick". You can also use various other commands unfortunately there are no proxy settings unless of course you proxy your browser.

The one main feature I like about this web based application is that you can talk to anybody anywhere in the world even if you don't speak their language. With translation provided by Google. You can easily setup the translation setting to automatically translate what everyone says, no matter what language to English, and what you say to whatever language you like.

Free web based applications

There are various free web based applications I use on a daily basis without even realising it. Also a few I rarely use but I'm sure other people on the web would find them more appealing. Web based applications require no download, and are normally easy to use.

The first one I use is Pandora radio, it's free but has limitations. For instance you can only listen for xx amount of hours per month. I listen to the radio a lot so I switched to Wadio which doesn't have any options at all, but they play a lot of music I like.

The second would be Meebo. I love this application when I'm at my college, I can log in to all of my messengers on one site at the same time. If you create a Meebo account it memorizes all of your user names and passwords without revealing them.

For on the go photo editing while I'm on a public computer I normally go to picnik. It has various photo effects. Apply them with one click and it's fairly easy. Of course this site isn't all free it has some premium effects that are only offered to premium members for a monthly fee. But below there is a tutorial. It's kind of a "cheat" to get premium effects on pictures.

You can search the web for many other web based applications depending on what you want. I have no specific site that you could search on however if you were to search for something like an alarm clock online, you would simply put "web based alarm clock" simple enough ?

Naked alarm clock, meaning it barely has a gui "graphical user interface" is one that I found that works great. Look here. Suggestions, comments, and questions are welcome.

Diamond hd media wonder.

Best buy i've gotten in my opinion. It's a little black box no bigger than a deck of cards. You can view photos, play music and movies. All together it was $54.83 without shipping it was $39.99 If you're interested in buying one, the price has gone down dramatically click here.

No problems on my end, I did look at a video review before buying and the guy had a little line going down his television screen but he said it was probably his own t.v. It turned out to be smaller than I expected, you can't put it up on top of your t.v. because the cables weigh more than the box.

The remote is fairly small, about the size of the palm of your hand. Menu is extremely easy to get the hang of you simply select the file you would like to view and it has a file tree of your external hard drive, usb, or sd/mmc card. That is if your device is organized if not it sorts everything in alphabetical order.

This is the video I watched before buying. If the embedded video doesn't work click the Youtube link , fairly useful review overall. I recommend people to buy this as it is a great buy. Easily play stored music, video and pictures.

Comodo Firewall "free for life"

First of all, I've been using this firewall for about 9 months now, no problems. Completely free, and it comes with a stealth port wizard and sandbox all built into the program. I can explain each of these features. Also once you install it, it's free for life, you don't have to re-register every year like Avast. You can get comodo here.

Sandbox like the name says, sandboxes a program into a virtual box in a sense. So say you open a virus in sandbox, it doesn't affect the hierarchy of your actual computer. You can do this with anything. But if you download sandbox the actual program, which you can get here. You can sandbox anything, Comodo has limitations, for instance it is incapable of sand boxing a browser easily.

Stealth port wizard is useful if you go into sites where your ip (Internet protocol) is in the open. Also it's useful while using Mirc if you don't have a proxy or something of that sort. It stealths all of your ports, making you un - pingable. Well theoretically, they are still able to ping you, but say you leave and someone tries to dos (denial of service) you. They wont know if you go offline or not, but there are ways around this if they are actually smart, which is rare in most cases. Also they will not know which ports are open and which are closed.

Comodo also has the option when you install to change your dns servers to comodo secure dns servers. I recommend it. It blocks a lot of ads and a lot of potential threats. Now if you install the program and the dns servers and you've been going to a site for a year and you know it's legitimate you can easily bypass the block. It will tell you with a big red screen saying that it's potentially harmful or something of that nature, with a continue button and it has in quotations "not recommended".

You can enable and disable sandbox. Comodo has a gaming mode which is convenient, meaning no alerts will pop open while you're in a game. I think this is the best choice for a home user. I've tried other firewalls like Norton. To me this gives more protection for the standard user rather than just setting it up and walking away. You actually have more control over what's going on and there are actually explanations of the features online.

Sweepstakes and free stuff

Well for the moment I've been entering a lot of sweepstakes on other blogs and on the Internet. I also found a site called Kingolotto. I don't know if it's a scam or not yet but I will definitely share my results when I get enough points to get something.

The only down-side is there aren't that many prizes to choose from. Like 5 and 10 dollar gift cards. It's a daily lottery and I've already gotten 200 points playing the past two days. A prize is like 5,000 points but then again I've only gotten a few matching numbers here and there.

You receive 10 tickets daily, after you're done entering your numbers or randomizing the number your required to click an ad, which is how the site makes all the money to keep it free.

But for sweepstakes, this site is a site i frequent. I have won something from here before, it was a poster but at least I won, that's how I look at it anyways. Ever since then I've been going back I only enter the single entry contests because I don't have the time to enter a contest daily over and over. About 5 a day and at the end of the month you should win a prize.

Phishing on the web and how to protect yourself.

First of all you might not even know what being phished means. Phishing is used to steal user information, passwords, logins, and other data that I'm sure no one would willingly give up.

Every time you login to check your e-mail you got a link for instance I go to http://mail.yahoo.com a phishing link would look something like this http://jokesonyou.mail.yahoo.freesite.com That's the first clue you're on a phishing site.

However if you have children on your computer like me, the kids will pay no attention to the address bar or what site they're clicking, you may be thinking that phishing is limited to ebay, yahoo and paypal but it's not.

Since phishing sites are everywhere, easy to make and require no html skills, it is very possible that a 10 year old kid could make one in under an hour. Now this kid might not have the intentions of stealing your bank account but he might have the intentions of stealing a Runescape or Build-a-bear account for personal gain.

To the point Firefox is what I use but you can easily find out if your internet browser has a built in phishing filter or if you need to download one. Mozilla firefox 3 and later already have it built in. If you're a beginner in computers and looking to learn more about phishing follow this link here.

Also if you've came across a site that you suspect as a user to be a phishing site you can submit it here. Which is one of the reasons I use Google as a search engine. Google filters your results, all the phishing pages that could be there, have been either taken down or avoided. I admit phishing pages aren't what they use to be.

Most of the time you will receive them in your e-mail claiming to be your bank or something else that 99% of the population have like a trust fund, or insurance of some sort. On the web they are like a needle in a haystack although they are still there.

How to grab ips, anywhere*.

Well, the reason i posted "anywhere*" was because of the simple fact that it's not anywhere. Only places that accept images. Such as yahoo, facebook, and myspace. It was originally created for Myspace.

It is although fairly useful elsewhere. There are other tutorials which are kind of hard to follow and a pain if you would like to create your own with a different image. But why ? Why would you go through all that trouble to get a different image ? Waste of time, anyways the feature of this link or html. The html is optional, all you need is the link. They provide you with two links, one to login with and one to post with.

Head on over here and sign up. Simple easy to follow registration. You don't have to provide a real myspace link if your not going to be using myspace. Anyways to the point, after registering. They will give you a code that looks similar to this

Once you've pasted the link into a yahoo message wait about 2-3 minutes, this doesn't work if they are using a client. Also it has to be one of the more recent versions of yahoo. Now once you've posted and you can see the image yourself, go to the href link login with your account, and you will see two ip's 255.255.255.255 and 201.201.201.201 those are just examples however, one will be yours and one will be theirs.

This is a personal post. It is 9 minutes past midnight I hope everyone is driving safely and still having fun. My niece got the new years set, the plastic champagne glasses, shiny hats, and the noisemakers.

That's the reason I made this post though, I wanted to ask people out there if they knew any sites to get all of that stuff cheaper. I haven't really searched that much or is there a specific place to buy that kind of thing. We got ours at Big Lots! for 12 dollars which is kind of steep.

Vlc player vs. Any player.

Ever since I've started to use vlc I've required no plug-ins. It's simple easy to use GUI (graphical user interface) stands out from all the rest. The only thing it lacks is a feature to burn songs which I don't need since I have a 2tb hard drive.

Also in a later post I'll mention my Diamond home media center. Nifty little device. Anyways back to the point Vlc will play anything you throw at it. Even .vob files that means you need no extra software. It has subtitle features as well as features to change the video format from 16:9 to whatever you like.

It has both audio and video effects, filters, and much more features that I've never even used up until today. Great player, un-like Windows media. Vlc is able to be ran on a linux machine. I've used this previously on Ubuntu. The one feature I find useful is the speed up and slow down button. Which works with both videos and songs.

Also a quote directly from their website to prove that I'm not spewing non-sense " With VLC, there is no need to continually update many different codec packs. VLC comes with nearly every codec built in!And whats more, VLC can play back your files, even if the media is damaged! Missing or broken pieces wont stop VLC. All the video and audio information that remains can be played."

Fantom drive 2tb.

Probably the best external hard drive I have ever owned. It requires no fan, It's 2 terabytes, and it doesn't get hot, even though I keep this thing running for up to 60 hours at a time because I rarely turn my computer off. I've had no problems with it out of the box. It is truly plug and play. The company tested it and already formatted the hard drive in Ntfs. Also it's smaller than my other boxes. It comes with a USB cord but it doesn't come with an esata cable. Unfortunate but I like USB more in the first place. This unit does require you to plug it into the wall, and it's fairly small so it's easy to pack around.

Fortunately I got this nice piece of hardware on Tiger Direct for $99.99 during their Black Friday special. I rate this product 5 out of 5. It was exactly what I expected and for the price you can't really beat it. No fan to replace in the future un-like my other drive even though fans rarely die.

For an added $14.00 I was able to get a 2 year warranty plus the manufacturer warranty. Some people would like to think I wasted the $14.00 but Hard drives normally die at the begginning of their life expectancy or they die at the end. I just want to have a little safety net just in case.

The one thing that is kind of annoying is when the hard drive doesn't do anything for about an hour then you begin to transfer something onto it or download a file " my downloads folder is located on the external " You hear it kick on. It kind of sounds like an engine but it's not so annoying I would return it. Also it's an energy saver. That's most likely the reason it does that.

Magic Jack a good buy ?

Okay I bought the Magic Jack about two months ago. I looked up various reviews stating that the call quality was horrible and the customer service was horrible but the people that were posting problems obviously knew nothing of what they were talking about.

First of all you can't buy the Magic Jack and have a dial-up connection. Easy resolution, test your speed before hand. I'm on a DSL connection and it works great as long as I'm not downloading anything. The program did take a while to install and tech support was horrible I do admit. I've been using a 4 dollar headset instead of a phone because I don't see the point in buying a phone if I am the only person that will be using it.

I would say the pros are that I got a 1 year plan and it was only 35 dollars. I bought it on Ebay. The call quality isn't bad at all, when my niece is on Facebook however, I do hear a little skip here and there but nothing to whine about. The tech support is bad in my opinion because they're limited on what they can say. I called when my phone was down for "maintenance" from a separate phone and the only answer I received was "We're working on it" and there was no date or time given when it would be up and working again.

But for the months I've had it has already payed for itself, when I get a voice mail it sends it to my e-mail for easy listening or you can call from practically anywhere, just call your Magic Jack phone number hit the (*) key and enter password and ta-da. I'm probably going to buy another year I rate the product a 3 out of 5 easily.

Easy to install if your computer savvy, It can be a pain because the auto play on my computer is turned off and I had to go into my settings to turn this option on. I think it's worth the money and I recommend other people to buy it. It would make a great birthday gift.
